Formed just last autumn, the sensational new singing group, CELESTE are set to hit the heights with their unique blend of classical-crossover music. Sophie, Nell, Polly, Nicola and Catherine, aged between 19 and 21, are all former cathedral choristers…in fact four of them are ex-Head Choristers and are thus steeped in the wonderful English choral tradition. But their musical tastes are wide-ranging and the new group has been rehearsing songs of many different genres…from classical through jazz to pop. The girls, three sopranos and two altos, just love the unique sound of five voices together.
"We are thrilled to have the chance to put this group together and to enjoy singing such wonderful music" commented high soprano, Sophie, an ex-chorister from both Salisbury and Wells Cathedrals. "Having sung in the fabulous choirs that we have all so enjoyed, it is fantastic to be able to blend our voices and produce such an amazing sound."
Already Celeste have attracted a lot of attention. They have appeared on Clare Balding's Radio 2 show "Good Morning Sunday" as Clare's first live studio guests. They have toured with Aled Jones on his recent cathedrals' tour and participated in a number of high profile events in London.
The programme will include Benjamin Britten's "Ceremony of Carols" in this centenary of Britten's birth.
