Anna Stokes is an established orchestral and chamber musician. She has worked with numerous orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra, London Concert Orchestra, Northern Sinfonia, Brandenburg Sinfonia, Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and Arts Symphonic amongst others. She has also toured the UK extensively with singers Russell Watson and Aled Jones.

She founded the Emanuel Ensemble in 2001 and they have since gone on to perform in recitals at the Purcell Room, Wigmore Hall, Cadogan Hall, National Gallery, V & A Museum, Conway Hall, Leeds International Festival, Schubert Society of Britain, Leighton House, Villa D'este Lake Como and numerous UK Concert Societies. Anna recorded her debut CD with the Emanuel Ensemble (John Reid-Pianist and Louisa Tuck-Cello) for Champs Hill Records (released in July 2011).

As a soloist, Anna has given flute / piano duo performances for the Qatar Foundation in Doha, at the Beethovenhaus in Bonn, the Cheltenham International Festival, for UK concert societies and performed concertos and solo works by Bach, Chaminade, Mozart, Quantz, Reinecke and Rouse. In 2006-2008 she was selected to participate in the Sir James Galway International Masterclass series and in 2007 was awarded a gold Nagahara headjoint for Best Performer by popular vote. Anna has worked with and featured on CD releases with artists including Aled Jones, Russell Watson, Libera, Isabel-The Choirgirl, Ittai Shapira (Violinist) & London Serenata, Camilla Kerslake and Beverley Knight.

Awards include the Marc Rich Scholarship for Artistic Achievement, David Bowerman Charitable Trust Sponsorship, Haynes International Flute Competition Prize Winner (2007), LPO Future Firsts (2006-7), Solti Foundation Award, Brannen-Cooper Flute awarded to her from the Foundation for Sport and the Arts and the EMI Sound Foundation. Anna has also given workshops in the UK, Hong Kong and Qatar and assists on the annual Lisa Friend London Flute Summer Class.
 
Anna was awarded a scholarship to the Purcell School of Music where she studied with Anna Pope. She was consequently awarded a Foundation Scholarship to the Royal College of Music where she studied flute with Susan Milan and Stewart McLlwham, graduating in 2004 with First Class Honours. She later received private tuition from Celia Chambers.

Anna plays on a Powell flute, which was made possible with support of the David Bowerman Charitable Trust.

 

Lisa Friend started the flute aged five. At sixteen she studied in New York with flautist Renee Siebert of the New York Philharmonic. She was then awarded a flute Scholarship to study with Julius Baker at his summer school in Connecticut. 


At seventeen, Lisa won a Scholarship to the Royal College of Music. where she studied with Susan Milan. Twice winner of the Martin Music Scholarship then enabled her to study at the Paris Conservatoire with Alain Marion and Ida Ribera. 


As a soloist, Lisa has appeared with the Philharmonia Orchestra,  Prague Philharmonic, Liverpool Philharmonic and toured throughout the UK, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, China and the USA. Other solo appearances include BBC ChildLine, a concert for Royal Family at Buckingham Palace as soloist with the late Yehudi Menuhin, the Britten theatre with the late Sir George Solti and for Steven Spielberg after writing and performing a track for his foundation SHOAH. Lisa was also soloist for the Bill Kenwright production Music 2000. She has given live recitals for Classic FM and Radio 3. Live television has included Brandenburg 5th Concerto in Spain with her father the International violinist Rodney Friend.


After signing a deal with Universal Publishing, Lisa wrote original arrangements for her trio based on some of the great film scores as well as her own compositions, performing at venues such as St Martin-in-the-Fields, St. James's Piccadilly, St. John's Smith Square and the British Embassy in Paris. Lisa recorded as soloist, Ennio Morricone's 'Once upon a time in America' for Silver Screen Records with the Prague Philharmonic.

Lisa recently performed alongside Liza Minnelli in aid of the White Rose Ball Holocaust Trust Fundraiser.  She also featured on a CD recording for 'Malcolm Martineau and friends' of songs by Poulenc on the Signum Classics label.  Recent highlights include recitals at St James's Piccadilly, The Forge and for the House of Commons amongst others. Lisa Friend has just been made an Ambassador of the Princes Trust and is delighted to be working alongside and supporting such a worthy cause.Lisa is in the middle of recording her 2nd solo album, which will be launched during 2013. She plays on a Verne Powell Gold Flute.

Mark Kinkaid

was born in 1965 and began playing piano at the age of six. He has performed various works with orchestra, given numerous recitals with flautist Lisa Friend, including a broadcast on Classic FM as well as a duo recital with James Dutton (flautist) in the Purcell Room as part of the Park Lane Group Recitals.

As a freelance accompanist, he has worked for the Royal College and Royal Academy of Music, Guildhall School of Music, BBC Symphony Orchestra, Peg Opera and Cambridge International String Academy & Festival. Mark was also a repetiteur for Opera South (Manon) and has accompanied the Basingstoke Choral Society since 1976 (appointed Assistant Musical Director in 1997).
Mark was an official accompanist on the Torroella de Montgri Summer Course in 1992 and 1993, Janacek Cunning Little Vixen in 2007 at Woodhouse in Surrey and musical director / accompanist  in 4 performances of Humperdinck Hansel and Gretel in 2008.
